The men put down the asphalt yesterday. They loaded it in their wheelbarrows from the back of a large, patient truck. Then they dumped it in piles and raked it with their wide-toothed, black rakes. And when they were done they stood and watched it all get flattened. And the steam rose from the ground and sizzled from the wet. They stood at the end and marveled at the job they’d done and the smooth black driveway they’d created for the guy with the camera.
