At the Southern tip of Everglades National Park, which is also the Southern tip of Florida, is a place called Flamingo. It is 38 miles from any actual town. Here, you will find six-dollar gas, a pink art-deco building that seems abandoned and haunted but actually doubles as a park information center and restaurant, boat slips with very few boats, a view of Florida Bay inhabited with West Indian Manatees (which we didn’t see), and the occasional albino alligator relaxing underneath a cordoned off bridge (which we did see).

Oh, and this rusty, but pretty lil’ hydrant.
