Driving south down the Delaware peninsula, you eventually come to a stretch of Maryland and 443 area codes on roadside signs. Then Virginia and 757s and miles of soy crops. Then the interminable Chesapeake Bay Bridge-Tunnel stretching across the mouth of the Chesapeake Bay. And the big ships in the Atlantic on your left and the sunset on the bay water to your right. And Virginia Beach still invisible on the horizon in front of you.
