we are together, and ones
who found fire together, chins
held high together—

we were together, and spliced
grass and ice, viced, sliced open
tied knots together—

we woke together, and went
broke, bought time together, sought,
caught, climbed, and pined together—

we rose together, yoked and
smoked, cried together, stoked
frozen skies together—

we sank together, shrank
apart, sleeping heart, tongue
tied, not together—

we flew together, and moved through
together, death and bones
reap, sown, and fell prone together—
